Users in the popular subreddit r/rocketleague complained this week that the new map called Aquadome is poorly optimized for systems that, according to its minimum requirements, should be able to run the game. The map features an underwater stadium that is surrounded by animated aquatic creatures. The water effects of the map along with the animations, collude to create poor performance.
The map, which has been recently released as part of the competitive rotation, runs poorly even on newer machines. Users report huge drops in framerate when running the map. Of course, developers can’t be expected to support decade-old hardware for those who are still running it. However the game’s competitive nature, which had historically eschewed good looks in favor of good gameplay, doesn’t attract players who are looking for a good looking experience.
As such, the abandon rate on this map is abnormally high. Many simply quit the match when realizing which map has loaded – it hinders they ability to play competitively.
In an effort to maintain its status as a competitive game, users have recently asked for developers to improve the performance of the map for those who are running it on higher performance settings.
Others have pointed out further issues with how the map looks. Some suggest that the maps graphics cause the ball to appear in double. Even worse still, those with colorblindness report the map being completed unplayable due to the color scheme.
